It is prescribed for hormone-replacement therapy (HRT) to ease hot flushes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, and bone loss. In transgender women it supports feminisation. It can also treat menstrual-cycle disorders when the body does not make enough oestrogen.
Estradiol replaces the body’s missing oestrogen, stabilising the thermoregulation centre, thickening vaginal tissue, and helping bones retain calcium. When combined with a progestogen in women with a uterus it lowers the risk of endometrial overgrowth.
Typical HRT doses are 1-2 mg once daily. Your doctor may start low and adjust monthly. Always take the tablets at roughly the same time each day.
