Minoxidil

Minoxidil is a medication that belongs to a group called vasodilators, which means it helps widen blood vessels. It is most commonly used as a topical treatment (applied to the skin) for hair loss in adults. 

Minoxidil is mainly used to treat androgenetic alopecia, also known as male or female pattern baldness. It can also be used for other types of hair loss, such as alopecia areata, and for enhancing eyebrows or beards in some cases. 

Minoxidil increases blood flow to the hair follicles by widening the blood vessels in the scalp. This improved circulation delivers more oxygen and nutrients to the follicles, helping to stimulate hair growth and prolong the hair’s growth phase. 

For adults, the usual dose is to apply 1 millilitre (mL) of the solution or half a capful of foam to the affected scalp areas twice daily-once in the morning and once in the evening.
